Presenting Egypt's Past: Archaeology and Identity in Egyptian Museum Practice

This study, resulting from recent field research, reviews the museums of Egypt in history, theory, and practice. Themes examined include museum organization, management, curatorship, and exhibition. Approaches to the public presentation of Egyptian antiquity are discussed in critical perspective. The narrative relationship between archaeological display and national identity in Egypt is emphasized, revealing postcolonial sentiment toward the nation’s indigenous heritage.
