Ancient Egyptian Language Discussion List [AEL]

"...The AEL discussion list came into existence on February 6th 1997 and provides a dedicated forum for the discussion of the ancient Egyptian language(s) and texts. Topics that have already come up include: learning/teaching egyptian, useful text books, hieratic, coptic, grammar, phonology, meanings of words. At any one time there are several threads, usually one of which is a discussion of a particular text, ie. translating it and discussing its grammar, meaning, etc. Previously, we have translated the Weni text (an inscription from the OK), the tale of Khufu and the Magician from the Wescar Papyrus, and the Shipwrecked Sailor (hieratic/ME). From time to time we do some exercises such as those in Gardiner''s ''Egyptian Grammar..."
