Tell Asmar and Khafaje: The First Season's Work in Eshnunna 1930/31

"The contents of this preliminary report are somewhat unusual in their character. If the account of the excavations at Tell Asmar, at least, appears a little over weighted on the historical side and somewhat slight in purely archeological matter, it must be remembered that it is a first season's work which is discussed here. Starting in a region where no excavations had been previously undertaken, The work was deliberately directed toward an elucidation of the position which this site occupied within the framework of Babylonian history during the period to which the ruins first encountered belonged. Thorkild Jacobsen's collaboration was called upon with a view to utilizing to the full the written documents that were discovered."
