Archaeology in Sharjah, UAE

"Since 1994, a team of international archaeologists has been excavating several late prehistoric settlements in the Emirate of Sharjah (United Arab Emirates). The research is conducted in collaboration with Dr. Sabah Jasim of the Sharjah Directorate of Antiquities without whose kind support the project would not be possible. The core team consists of Peter Magee (Director), Emma Thompson (Field Director), Anne Mackay (Field Director), Marc Händel (Field Director), Hans-Peter and Margaret Uerpmann (Archaeozoologists) and Susanna Billson (Architect and Draughtsperson) For many years, we have focussed on the Iron Age settlement of Muweilah. Our work continues at this site but you can read publications concerning the first two seasons, the 2001, and 2003 seasons. More recently we have also turned our attention to two other sites: Hamriya and Tell Abraq. In these pages you will find an introduction to these excavations and a description of some of the major finds."
