"Foster''s English Translations from the Greek is an alphabetical list of Greek authors translated into English, both in England and America, from the advent of printing until the First World War. "Greek authors" is defined narrowly, ending in A.D. 200 and restricted to pagan authors. The bibliography is prefaced by an analysis of the data, complete with tables and charts. Another lesson is to be learned by the relative length of the entries. Epictetus found as many translators as Thucydides. "Cebes," the name attached to a first century philosophical dialogue, was hot in the 17th and 18th century, but barely rates two inches in the Oxford English Dictionary today. "
