Ancient Olympics

"This website introduces you to the wonderful world of the ancient Greek games. More than a thousand years, from 776 BC until AD 393, the Greeks held competitions in running, fighting and horse driving in Olympia in honour of Zeus. These games were the model for the modern Olympics. Side by side with the Olympic games, hundreds of similar competitions were held in the Greek and Roman cities. Alongside sports they also made room for musical competition. There were even games for girls. Have a look at the precursors of the great games in Beijing in 2008."
